The second largest city in Greece, Thessaloniki is quite an interesting place to check out.

Completely different than the capital of Athens and offering some lovely port city vibe, it’s a great base if you prefer to explore Northern Greece.

When it comes to booking accommodation, just like in (almost) any city, in Thessaloniki is a good idea to stay in the city center, widely known as the seaside promenade. Just a short walk from here, you’ll also find the White Tower.

If you choose a budget hotel near the White Tower, you’ll not only have a bunch of sights within walking distance, but you’ll also have access to public transportation and yes, amazing tavernas!

When it comes to looking for budget accommodation near the White Tower in Thessaloniki, there are some good options. With prices starting from 20 EUR for a bunk bed in a dorm to around 90 EUR for a double room, you’ll find something to suit your needs.

In recent years, however, it’s almost always cheaper to opt for an apartment in a shared property rather than choose a hotel. So, if you prefer them, you’ll also find some options in this article.

Do remember that accommodation in Greece doesn’t have a standard way to categorize property. So, a 3-star hotel might offer the same things as a 1-star hotel. (As opposed to other European countries where standards are put in place and certain amenities need to exist for a property to gain more stars).

RentRooms Thessaloniki

Address: Konstantinou Melenikou 9

Right near the University Campus, RentRooms is centrally located, just 900 m from the White Tower.

You can opt in for breakfast, airport transfers, and your room is equipped with balcony, air-conditioning, flatscreen, minibar, and free Wi-Fi. Both double and twin bedrooms are available from 64 EUR to 84 EUR, and bunkbeds dorms from 20 EUR / person. A single room costs from 71 EUR per night.

The accommodation also has a garden and a bar.

Rotonda Hotel

Address: Monastiriou 97

A 3-star hotel, located in the city center, it offers 79 rooms, all with AC, balcony, fridge, phone, and free wi-fi. The buffet breakfast is included in the room price.

This hotel is not quite as close to the White Tower but with public transportation you are a few stops away. Plus, you are close to other sights in the and right in front of the train station.

During the high season (July & August) expect to pay 87 EUR per night for a double or 77 EUR per night for a single. During the low season you can find the double as low as 74 EUR.

Alexandria Hotel

Address: Egnatias 18

A 1-star hotel, Alexandria Hotel is within walking distance of the White Tower. Offering low prices and a central location, it’s a great choice for a weekend in Thessaloniki .

All rooms have balconies, private bathrooms, AC, free Wi-Fi, hair driers, and safe box. Prices for twin or double room start at 50 EUR and a single costs 45 EUR and 65 EUR per night.

The rooms are small and reviews are not the best but if you need to stick to a planned budget this could be choice.

Plaza Hotel, Philian Hotels and Resorts

Just 20 min from the port and right in the heart of the city you’ll find Plaza Art Hotel. The 3-star hotel is close to the White Tower and other important sights. There’s internet available in all rooms (for a fee) and breakfast (10 EUR / person) is served in the room. The hotel also offers private parking.

All rooms have phone, AC, and fridge.

You can expect to pay around 101 EUR in a double during low season but with high demand prices can go up as 184 EUR in high season. Make sure to booking early and keep an eye on the possible deals available, too

Casa Primavera

Centrally located near the Rotonda, you’ll be within walking distance of many sights.

Casa Primavera condo hotel offers great value, with soundproof rooms, free Wi-Fi and AC. The twin bedroom costs between 64 EUR and 73 EUR per night depending on the dates.

PANSEA 06 IsimeriaHomz

Address: Vasiliou Chatzi nr 3

A beachfront apartment, within 7 min walk of the the White Tower, it offers a 1 bedroom with flatscreen, Wi-Fi, and kitchen with oven. You’ll have private access, both city and sea view, putting you right in the heart of the action.

This central apartment costs from 55 EUR per night in the double and 50 EUR per night for the single room in low season, and 65 EUR per night respectively 59 EUR per night in high season, though a cheaper nonrefundable price is available for around 59 EUR per night in the double and 53 EUR per night in the single room.

Central 1 Bedroom Nest

Half a kilometer away from the White Tower, this 1-bedroom apartment comprises a living room, kitchen, and 1 bathroom. It is close to the sights and tavernas. With AC, free Wi-Fi, a coffee machine and fantastic views, you’ll be set for a lovely morning getting ready to explore.

This apartment costs between 55 EUR to 83 EUR per night but has a minimum stay of 7 nights. Availability is also quite finnicky so make sure to book in advance.
