Upon checking the updated schedule for 2019, this direct route was not found on booking sites or schedule sites.

Two ways to get from Thessaloniki to Chios are :

  • bus from Thessaloniki to Kavala and then ferry to Chios
  • bus from Thessaloniki to Athens (Piraeus) then ferry to Chios

Thessaloniki is served by an ancient port and among the destinations covered there’s also the North-Eastern Aegean Islands, which include Chios.

The island of Chios is located very close to the Turkish coasts. It’s popular for the mastic production, as well as the olive oil, figs and wine industries. The island is blessed with a mild climate and beautiful scenery. There are lovely beaches to check out as well. Although the island is quite big, it’s not yet over run by tourists.

How long does it take to get from Thessaloniki to Chios?

It takes 17 hours 30 minutes to get from Thessaloniki to Chios.

Is there a high speed ferry between Thessaloniki and Chios?

No.

How much does it cost to get from Thessaloniki to Chios by ferry?

On the ferries operated by Net Lines, the saloni and airplane type of seats cost €38 per person, one way , while an A class 3 beds external berth will set you back €87 per person.

How many ferries per day depart from Thessaloniki to Chios during the low season?

During the low season 2013, there is a ferry running on Mondays at 3 p.m. from Thessaloniki to Chios, until Jun 24.

How many ferries per day depart from Thessaloniki to Chios during the high season?

During the 2013 high season there is a ferry running on Mondays at 3 p.m. from Thessaloniki to Chios, from Jul 1 to Oct 28.

Are there any overnight journeys between Thessaloniki and Chios?

Yes.

Does everyone charge the same prices?

The prices are the same regardless of where you book the ticket. However, if you want to benefit from the additional discounts offered by the ferry companies, it’s advisable to buy the tickets from the respective company’s website or from the authorized travel agents.

How about the ferries from Chios to Thessaloniki?

During 2013 there is a ferry running on Sun at 11:30 a.m. from Chios to Thessaloniki, during the low season until Jun 23 and during the high season from Jun 30 to Oct 27.

Important note:

The ferry companies submit their schedule weekly to the Ministry of Mercantile Marine so it is advisable to double check the schedule before booking your ticket.
