How To Spend 3 Days in Corfu

Guest Post by Lowri Thomas of Many Other Roads

Need an epic 3 days in Corfu itinerary?

You are in the right place!

This Greek Island in the Aegean Sea is one of the best places to explore. With its cobbled streets, blue waters, and friendly locals, you will quickly see why this is one of my favorite places.

However, like many destinations, it’s hard to know the best ways to spend your time there.

So let me help you plan an amazing trip here and dive into the ultimate ways to spend 3 days or a weekend in Corfu.

When Is the Best Time to Visit Corfu?

Unfortunately, there isn’t a direct answer, and this depends on what you want to get out of your Corfu trip.

However, for guaranteed great weather and the best conditions for sunbathing and exploring, the best time to visit Corfu is June.

This month gives you all the perks of the peak summer months but with fewer crowds and cheaper flights and accommodation!

If hiking is more your thing, I recommend you visit in May or September. These months are slightly cooler than the summer period but are still pleasant for experiencing Corfu.

Are Three Days Enough to See Corfu?

You can see a lot of Corfu in 3 days, but it depends on how intensively you want to explore.

This is where renting a car will help you out!

Hiring a vehicle will help you reach places faster and allow you to see off-the-beaten-track gems in next to no time.

However, if you want to get an in-depth feeling for the Island, most visitors including myself would recommend spending 5-7 days here.

How to Get to Corfu

Due to its popularity among visitors, it’s easy to get to Corfu. You can get here either by plane or by ferry.

Corfu International Airport “Ioannis Kapodistrias” (CFU) is served by flights year-round from both Athens and Thessaloniki. During the travel seasons, however, you can fly directly to Corfu from a variety of European airports, including London, Madrid, Dublin, Amsterdam, or Munich.

If you’ve chosen to fly to Athens’ International Airport (ATH) and prefer to take a ferry to Corfu, you’ll have to travel either Igoumenitsa or Patras first, as there aren’t any ferries from Piraeus or Rafina.

How to Get Around Corfu

Some of the Greek islands are hard to get around, But Corfu isn’t one of them!

You will find various transportation options for getting around and exploring its attractions. Here are some of the best ways to navigate the island:

Rental Cars and Scooters:

Renting a car or scooter provides the flexibility to explore Corfu at your own pace. Many rental agencies are available at the airport, in Corfu Town, and popular tourist areas.

Public Buses:

Corfu has an extensive public bus network that connects major towns and villages.
The central bus station is in Corfu Town, and you can find routes to various destinations across the island.
This is the cheapest way to get around the Island and from the Airport but not the quickest.

Taxis:

Taxis are readily available in Corfu Town and popular tourist areas. They provide a convenient and comfortable option, especially if you prefer door-to-door service.
You will also find Uber on the Island now!

Boats and Ferries:

Taking boats or ferries is a great way to explore coastal areas and nearby islands. Boat tours are available for day trips or longer excursions and are one of the best ways to see Corfu!

For the most magical experience, do a sunset cruise. You will get to see the Island in a whole different light and it’s much more enjoyable in the cooler evening temperatures.

Walking:

Many areas of Corfu, especially in the old town and coastal regions, are pedestrian friendly. Exploring by foot is the top way to make the most of that Mediterranean sun and take things at your own pace.
However, don’t risk walking in areas where there are no footpaths. Greek drivers can go pretty fast, and accidents can easily happen.

Hire a Driver:
For a more personalized experience, consider hiring a private driver or guide who can tailor the itinerary to your preferences and provide insights into the local culture.

This is one of the few ways you can experience Greece through a local’s eyes!

How To Spend 3 Days in Corfu: Day by Day Itinerary

There are a million ways you could spend your time in Corfu during a short day or a weekend. There are stunning beaches to explore, amazing restaurants to dine at and so much more.

After a few trips here I noticed there are some places I kept constantly recommending to others.

To help you have a taste of the real Corfu, this is the best way to spend your 3-day getaway:

Day 1: Exploring Corfu Town

Morning:

Paleo Frourio

Start your day with a visit to the Old Fortress (Paleo Frourio), offering panoramic views of Corfu Town and the surrounding sea. Explore the fortifications, including the Venetian walls and the British-built structures.

The next thing you should do is wander through the narrow streets of Corfu Old Town (UNESCO World Heritage Site), admiring Venetian architecture, colorful buildings, and charming squares.

Don’t miss landmarks like the Liston Promenade and the Spianada Square, one of the largest squares in Europe!

I love spending time in Corfu Old Town and always go to Sweet ‘N Spicy Organic Shop to grab some Greek spices to bring home.

Afternoon:

Enjoy a leisurely lunch at a traditional Greek taverna in the Old Town, savoring local dishes like moussaka, souvlaki, or seafood meze.

One of the best places to try is Taverna Ninos which has the most incredible Gyros!
Visit the Corfu Archaeological Museum to learn about the island’s rich history, including artefacts from ancient Greece, Rome, and Byzantium.

Explore the New Fortress (Neo Frourio), another impressive fortification offering stunning views of the town and harbor.

Evening:

Stroll along Corfu Harbor and watch the sunset over the Ionian Sea.

There are some lovely places to shop and drink here so it’s the perfect place to pick up bespoke gifts.

Enjoy dinner at one of the many restaurants in the Old Town, sampling Greek specialties paired with local wine or ouzo.

Day 2: Coastal Exploration and Beach Relaxation

Morning:

Paleokastritsa

Drive or take a bus to Paleokastritsa, a picturesque coastal village known for its crystal-clear waters and lush greenery.
Visit the Paleokastritsa Monastery, perched on a hilltop overlooking the sea. This is the place for the best views of the whole Island so bring a camera!

Just remember this is a religious space so dress appropriately.

Explore the nearby beaches, such as Agios Spyridon and La Grotta Beach, where you can swim, snorkel, or simply relax on the golden sands.

Booking a boat trip in this area to explore hidden beaches and the bluest waters can be quite an amazing experience.

Afternoon:

Have lunch at a seaside taverna in Paleokastritsa, the views here are incredible.

If you are visiting in the summer either sit in the shade or visit after 3 PM when it is a lot cooler. Trying to enjoy your meal under the beating sun is not fun!

Then head to the nearby Angelokastro (Angel’s Castle), a Byzantine fortress offering breathtaking views of the coastline. Explore the ruins and imagine the castle’s storied past.

Evening:

Travel to Roda for the evening. This location is full of incredible bars, restaurants and sea views.

The Boathouse Bar & Cocktail offers epic views of Albania as you enjoy a drink or two!

Day 3: Rural Villages and Olive Groves

Morning:
Travel inland to explore the traditional villages of central Corfu, such as Pelekas, Sinarades, and Gastouri.

Wander through narrow streets lined with stone houses, visit local churches, and admire panoramic views of the countryside.

Afternoon:

Visit the Achilleion Palace, a grand neoclassical mansion built by Empress Elisabeth of Austria (Sisi). Explore the palace gardens, adorned with statues and lush vegetation, and learn about the fascinating history of the building.

Take a scenic tour through the island’s olive groves and vineyards, stopping at a local olive oil mill or winery for a tasting experience.

Evening:

Spend your evening in the charming village of Benitses, 20 minutes or so from Corfu Town.

Here you will find friendly locals relaxing along the beachfront taking in the best sunset views.

One of my favourite places to eat here is Oi Oraies Benitses which does some of the best Greek food on the Island!

If you are to only order one thing here, get the Mezze platter!

Where To Go in Corfu If You Have More Time

72 hours is a good amount of time to get a feel for this relaxed Greek Island. But if you manage to get a few more days here, you can experience much more of Corfu.

Here are some activities you should add to your itinerary during a longer trip:
